About Us
“Tackling the skills shortage in electronic engineering is a high priority for every electronics employer at the moment”
Tech Lancaster’s electronic skills programme is addressing the critical skills shortage in electronics across England through Delivery of Skills Bootcamps in Electronics funded by the Department for Education. Designed and delivered by industry, we are not your average training provider but instead are an industry-led, skills and people-focused organisation. Experienced engineers and technologists run the courses to make sure the material we provide is relevant and valuable. We support the Electech career prospects of those both in and out of employment. We provide flexible learning via our bespoke online platform and guided lab/workshop (both physical and video conference based).
What is Tech Lancaster?
We are an industry-led outreach and training organisation based in Lancaster, United Kingdom. Tech Lancaster aims to support gaining new talent into electronics and technology companies nationwide, also called the Electech sector. We also want to support those already in the industry by offering further learning and providing help.
According to InnovateUK, the electronics and Electech sector already generates over 6% of UK economic output (by GDP) and supports over 1 million jobs. The sector offers stable employment and is well paid and fulfilling. With an ever-increasing need for technology development, we need more highly skilled people to help us grow.
Tech Lancaster is also funded to undertake research and outreach activities through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Innovate UK.
Where and How Do We Operate?
Tech Lancaster was initially formed in Lancaster, in the north west of England, to support our regional electech industry, however we have now expanded our capabilities and offering across England, helping participants in a variety of regions access electech Skills Bootcamps – from cities to rural areas. Our Skills Bootcamps operate in a hybrid manner, with online and “pop-up” training workshops making them accessible to those aged 19+ with a right to work in the UK and those with other certain residency status (see our eligibility information for full details).
As a Skills Bootcamp supported by UK Government as part of its Skills for Life programme, you can also find us on https://www.gov.uk/guidance/find-a-skills-bootcamp/
Industry-Led Skills Expertise
Tech Lancaster is an inspiring story about the power of collaboration. Through the Department for Educations Skills Bootcamp provision Tech Lancaster are actively seeking to collaborate with clusters of electronics activities across England.
A Trailblazing Skills Programme
We started planning our first Electronics Skills Programme bootcamp in 2020 and became a pilot for the UK Government Lifetime Skills Guarantee strategy. The pilot Bootcamp recruited over 140 participants and placed many into new jobs. Our first training cohort led the way for technical Bootcamps in electronics and Electech across the UK, and was reported in national media. If you are interested in the journey Tech Lancaster has taken there is more information here.

With a range of job roles available in the sector (including in technical sales, quality assurance, admin and procurement) Tech Lancaster training programmes cover a variety of areas. Our programmes cover everything from industry basics, to electronics and PCB manufacturing, embedded software development and hardware design engineering.
We provide “work ready” skills training for all ages and backgrounds. Prior electronics experience is not required; however, a practical or technical can-do attitude is beneficial. We also help signpost to recommend further learning for those not quite ready for a role in our industry yet.
